We had a terrific market on our first Wednesday of August. School is about to be back in session, but our market will continue going with summer produce and summer fun until the end of October!
Pie Fest July 19
The 3rd annual East Nashville Farmers Market Pie Festival was held on Wednesday, July 19th at the East Nashville Farmers Market. The weatherman had called for a record heat day, but loyal customers flooded Shelby Park for the tastiest market of the year- Pie Fest. Kids enjoyed face painting and games and parents enjoyed the live music, food trucks and locally grown food.Our celebrity judges were in for a real treat as they tasted homemade pies from all over Nashville. 3rd Annual Pie Festival July 19
Do you have what it takes to be last year’s pie festival champion? Enter the pie contest and find out!
Pre-registration is necessary! We need to know your pie is coming to reserve your spot. To pre-register, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and include the following information:
- Full name
- Phone number
- Age group (17 and under or 18 and above)
- Whether you are a professional baker, amateur, or culinary student
- Pie category (sweet, savory or hand pie)
- Name of your pie with a brief description
Pies are to be submitted at the registration tent between 3:30 and 4pm at the East Nashville Farmers Market. Pies will not be accepted after 4 p.m.
Please note that after your pie has been judged, it will be portioned and displayed for sampling for our market shoppers, along with a copy of your ingredient list and recipe.
If you are submitting a pie in a personal dish or stand, make sure your name is taped on the bottom of your dish so you can retrieve it after the event.
Each pie must be pre-registered online and submitted with four copies of a full ingredient list, including title of pie, for each judge.
Each ingredient list should include the name of the farmer/vendor/artisan whose produce or product was used in the pie
Please, no store-bought pie crusts or fillings.
Please consider the summer temperatures. No ice-box, cream, or other pies that require refrigeration

Bakers are encouraged to use East Nashville Farmers Market ingredients provided by our local farmers and vendors, so please visit our market to purchase your ingredients in advance!

The most anticipated day for East Nashville Families has arrived! Opening Day for our community Farmers Market! We have a record number of local Farmers, Bakers and Artisans for this years East Nashville Farmers Market. We will have sweet Tennessee Strawberries, beautiful lettuces, kale, herbs, baked breads, cookies and sweets. Healthy starter plants for your garden grown by our local farmers. Many of our market farmers still have room for CSA shares for the coming season, a great way to feed your family over the next few months with fresh farm food! So bring a blanket and enjoy great food, music with great weather in Shelby Park.

Market Day 10/7/2015:
This is a great time to purchase locally-grown sweet potatoes! Our farmers have recently harvested a crop straight from the field and they are arriving fresh for your dinner plate. Fall greens like kale, collards, turnip, and Swiss chard are back and ready to be sautéed, braised, simmered, or blanched and frozen for winter. Winter squash is in abundance and is delicious when roasted or added to curries and soups. Cherry tomatoes are still going strong for salads, sauces, and stew. Get your cucumbers and okra for spicy, garlicky or sweet bread and butter pickles. Don’t forget your locally-produced chicken, pork, and beef for roasts or football cookouts. Plus fresh pastas, artisan and sweet breads, baked-goods, and much, much more.
Market Day 9/30/2015:
Fall Veggies, Fresh Breads and 1st Place Tennessee State Fair Strawberry Jam, Live Music and so much more will be at market today. A great balance of rain and sunshine the past two months is delivering beautiful fall produce for market. Enjoy tomatoes, green beans, up to ten different pepper varieties, squash, zucchini, lettuces, sweet potatoes, salsa, baked breads and sweets. Beef, chicken and pork with dried herbs, BBQ sauce and cajun foods and seasonings. Market begins at 3:30 till 7pm today! We hope to see you at market!

Market Day 9/23/2015:
We’re beginning to see the first of the fall greens trickle in! Green Door Gourmet is bringing kale, collards, turnip greens, and chard to market, plus dragon beans, heirloom eggplant, tomatoes, and sweet Japanese turnips. Delvin Farms has sweet potatoes, sweet corn, cherry tomatoes, mounds of green beans, yellow squash, and kale, too. Flying S Farm has butternut squash, eggplant, radishes, and tons of freshly-baked breads, jams, and jellies.
Fall Festival is set for September 23, 2015, sponsored by the Silly Goose. Bring the kids to touch a tractor, get their face painted, or visit our live petting zoo. Live musical lineup presented by the Basement East. Food trucks serving kid-friendly and vegetarian dinner options. Come celebrate the changing of the season with your local farmers and neighbors!

Endless meal-planning possibilities abound at market this week! Fresh pasta, crisp green beans, bulbs of freshly-dug garlic, new crop of squash, zucchini, and tomatoes, specialty mushrooms, herbs, freshly-baked breads, eggplant, peppers, and more! Visit the Flying S Farm booth to grab a freshly-baked loaf of Friendship Bread and learn how you can pass-on the love and build connections. Delvin Farms’ organic alsa has been canned fresh from the field and is available at market in Mild, Medium, and Fire Hot. So much good food! Get some!
Lillie Syracuse Wows Crowd This Week!
Fresh out of the rolling foothills of Pumpkintown, South Carolina, Lillie Syracuse came to Nashville with a sparkling-sweet Southern sensibility, complimented by the graceful grit of someone who was born to ramble. For two years, she’s been singing the streets, bars, and honky-tonks of Music City with a vibrant voice and soul as fiery as the hair on her head.
Market Day 9/1/2015:
We have only 2 weeks left for juicy, sweet summer watermelon season, so come out and get yours from your local farmer this week! Plenty of varieties of tomatoes, peppers both sweet and hot, red and green okra, Italian and Japanese eggplant varieties, and an array of potatoes. Plus, freshly baked breads and locally-raised meats available. Cooler summer temperatures for our family picnics on the grassy knoll!
Our special musical guest this week will be Kat Elfman. Kat combines blues, soul, country and rock with a unique and timeless blend of yesterday and today to tell a story of love, heartache, and everything in between.
Market Day 8/19/15:
This week, our farmers are bringing loads of organically-grown ‘Crimson Sweet’ watermelons along with ripe, fragrant cantaloupes. Summer vegetables include green beans, wax beans, red and green okra, zephyr and patty-pan squashes, and an array of multi-colored sweet and hot peppers. We have plenty of fresh breads to make summer bruschetta, like freshly-baked local sourdoughs, semolinas, whole-wheat loaves, and baguettes. Kirchner Kickles — pickles with a Kick!, Delvin’s field-to-jar Hot Salsa, and No. 9 Farm’s Rosemary Popcorn Salt and Roasted Garlic Salts.
Our Special Musical guest for this week is the lovely young talents Someday Soon Bluegrass!! These guys were a huge hit at our market back in May, and we are excited for our East Nashville family to give them another warm welcome. Members include Frannie DiGiovonni on guitar, sister Cara DiGiovanni on mandolin, Ivy Phillips on fiddle, and her older brother Grayson Phillips on bass. You don’t wanna miss this young and outstanding act!
Market Day Event 9/12/15:
Watermelon and Cantaloupe tasting is on tap for today’s market. The melons this year are especially sweet due to a nice balance of rain our local farmers have received. We have so much beautiful produce in the market. We have Tomatoes, Okra, Bell Peppers, Watermelon, Cantaloupe, sweet corn, onions, squash, zucchini, eggplant, mushrooms, did I say TOMATOES!!! Delvin Farms has their first batch of Tomato Salsa in mild or hot. We also have chicken, beef and pork with different varieties of sausages and Local Honey! Also locally baked bread pickles and preserves.
Drop by the market for the best selection of fresh local food you can find in East Nashville. Market favorite Lillie Syracuse will be entertaining us with her wonderful music!

Our first Tomato Throwdown event is here! This is Tomato Fest week here in East Nashville. To help kick off the weekend celebration early your East Nashville Farmers market will have loads of tomatoes for our neighbors. You can taste up to 15 different tomato varieties of heirloom, hybrid, cherries and many more. Chef Hrant Arakelian of Holland House Bar and Refuge will be giving a chef demonstration. Market Day Event 7/22/15:
The East Nashville Farmers Market Tomato Throwdown(hyperlink to blog) is set for August 5, 2015, from 3:30 to 7pm. Tomato growers of East Nashville will unite with local farmers and judges to determine who has the tastiest tomatoes this side of the Cumberland. Live music presented by the Basement East, and executive chef Hrant Arakelian of Holland House Bar and Refuge at the chef’s tent serving small tomato-inspired bites.
Kelly Ann Monahan, founder of Sweetie Pie® Health & Harmony, will be this week’s special market guest. Kelly is an integrative nutrition coach who authored the recipe e-book Sweet Healthy Living…Delicious, Easy Recipes…Clean Eating Never Tasted So Good! Find her at one of our farmers’ market booths to discuss tips on healthy, clean eating and information about her recipe book.
Market Day Event 7/15/15:
This week at market, sweet corn and varieties of peppers! Plus lots of other summer fruits and vegetables, like okra, eggplant, tomato varieties, green beans, herbs, blackberries, blueberries, peaches, and more! Last week, our returning musical guest, East Nashville native Mary Bragg, serenaded crowds with her soulful folk talents. Chef and General Manager Bret Tuck of Edley’s Bar-B-Que will be providing great tasting smoked brisket and chickens at market. Briskets will be provided by Triple L Ranch and chickens will be provided by Quarter Spring Farm. Market Day Event 6/17/15:
Enjoy a week of nutritious food from our local farms. The nice balance of rain and sunshine so far this year is delivering beautiful yellow squash, zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, cucumbers, green beans and cherry tomatoes. Fresh baked breads, sweet treats, juices, jams, and jellies. Our artisans provided wonderful hand made soaps, essentials oils and creams.
Bring a blanket for the family to lay on and spend the late afternoon relaxing in beautiful Shelby Park. Fresh foods to munch on and listen to music by Chris Keller.

Market Day Event 5/13/15:
Recent nice weather is delivering one of the best Strawberry crops in years. It’s a great time to buy large supplies of local strawberries to freeze for cooking later in the year. I love adding frozen local strawberries to my smoothies long after our local strawberry season is over. We will also have kale, lettuces, radishes and other spring veggies. Local meats of beef, chicken, pork with varieties of great tasting sausages. Baked breads, cakes and pies are throughout market every Wednesday. We also have a new hand made soap artisan!
Music is provided by local folk artist and market volunteer Mary Bragg! Weather for Wednesday’s market looks to be sunny with a high of 81 degrees. Bring a blanket and some friends for a nice relaxing day in the park with some local food, farmers and great music! We will have plenty of prepared foods for having dinner in the park at market. Our 2015 opening day market season is now here! Most of our wonderful farmers and other market vendors have returned! We will have many new vendors joining our market this year. We will have almost double the parking spaces with no construction this year! We appreciate the patience our customers displayed last year during all the Shelby Park upgrades. To find our new market location in Shelby Park take Shelby Ave directly into the park once you cross 20th Street. Follow the winding road down the hill to the lake and turn right. Continue until you pass the Old Timers baseball field and must turn left onto Davidson St. You are now driving along the Cumberland river, just pass the baseball field on the left you will find our farmers market on the left next to the children’s play ground.
